Enhanced sustainability
With 500 million trips using fuel-efficient routing each month, we estimate energy savings of more than 2.7 million metric tons of GHG emissions. This is roughly equal to taking 630,000 gasoline-powered cars off the road for a year. Fuel-efficient routing was one of five Google products that enabled others to reduce an estimated 26 million metric tons of GHG emissions in 2024.

Improved mobility
Green Light identified opportunities where we previously had no visibility and directed engineers to where there were potential benefits in changing signal timings. This provided valuable insights for our city with 2,400 traffic signals. Both the Green Light and Transport for Greater Manchester teams brought expertise and ideas to the table to improve journeys and reduce emissions.
Global climate impact
Since 2018, the Environmental Insights Explorer (EIE) has provided 40,000 cities worldwide with critical data like building and transportation emissions, rooftop solar potential, and tree canopy coverage to inform annual climate action planning for local governments.
